You’ve heard the adage, “If you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one”. Well, it’s true in marketing too. Too many small businesses try to claim the entire universe as their target market. But that’s not a target; it’s a net. And if you aim your arrows at a net, you’ll most likely shoot right through the holes. Focus your marketing efforts, not on all the people who might possibly buy from you, but on those precious few people who will most likely buy from you. Focus on those precious few people who would be your ideal customers, your dream customers. Figure out who you would most like to add to your customer list, and become an expert in solving their problems. Focus your marketing on those precious few, and others will follow. But more importantly, those precious few will be drawn to you. When you specialize in solving their unique problems, you become an expert in their problems. You become an expert in THEM. And that is an expertise that they will really value!
