I do a lot of business networking. I tell myself I do it because it’s a great way to meet people and develop relationships that can lead to new business. But all too often, I get into chats with my friends at these events, and I forget to step out and include new people in the conversations. Almost all networkers fall into this habit, and we need to make a concerted effort to break that habit. So today, I’m making a pledge to myself to reach out at the next meeting. I’m stepping outside the comfort zone, and making a point to talk to at least three new people. It’s my New Day’s Resolution. How about you? Are you willing to take the pledge?

Don’t be shy. You need to learn to come out of your shell once in a while.
EXACTLY!!!!! Always try to meet new people. Marianne, you really hit the proverbial nail on the head. I, too, catch myself attending a business after hours type event, and 99% of the time I realize that I have just gravitated toward those that I already know and, therefore we truly do nothing more than socialize.
I have witnessed a couple of people at some of these events, and they are doing EXACTLY as you suggest….”networking”. WOW…there’s a novel concept…actually NETWORKING at a NETWORKING EVENT!!!
We try to “teach” this at New Beginnings, and I hope that between that and your reiterating in this blog….just one more person will, like you, embrace “My New Day’s Resolution”!
Oh, and Don’s right….you really do need to learn to come out of your shell once in a while….you are just so dog-gone shy! LOL
It sounds like you are ready to do an education segment at NBNG?!? (subtle hint there!!!)
~Jeff~
Well, Jeff, I think I could be coaxed out of my shell long enough to address the NBNG. Let’s talk about that.
